Father’s Day Steaks

Since we had Country Style Ribs for Mother’s Day, it was only fitting that we grilled up some steaks for Father’s Day. For this meal we decided to use seasonings that you could run out to the local grocery store and pick up, just in case you are a mother who got ribs for Mother’s Day and you know you are going to be cooking for a special father that loves grilled meat and you are not familiar with cooking on a grill. Whew, that was a mouthful!

Let’s get started. The first thing you are going to do is grab a couple steak seasonings that are premixed and ready to go. If you already know what the father you are grilling for likes then pick that up. For this Father’s Day, we decided to try out a couple of McCormick seasonings. We chose a more traditional steak rub with a little zing to it called ‘Montreal Steak’ and a rub with a mellow sweet smoky flavor called ‘Smokehouse Maple’.

We rubbed the steaks and let them sit while getting the coals ready. For this occasion, I chose to use a lump hardwood charcoal to add a little extra smoky flavor to the steaks. After the coals were lit in our favorite grill chimney and spread evenly across the bottom of the grill we grilled the steaks to a nice medium well.

Once they were done, it was time to serve them up and see what everyone thought. The general consensus was that the Montreal Steak seasoning had a good solid black pepper zing to it, but didn’t really add any flavor beyond that. Most of our taste testers were disappointed with the ‘Montreal Steak’ seasoning. On the other had, the ‘Smokehouse Maple’ was a hit. It has a subtle sweet flavor with a hint of smoke that really appealed to our taste testers.
